Statement from Judge Carmichael on Mayor Mike Moore’s Decision Not to Seek Re-Election

Last December I announced my intention to run for Mayor of Jeffersonville. When that decision was made, I certainly expected the race to be against a formidable opponent, Mayor Mike Moore. Today, Mayor Moore announced that he was not seeking re-election. His decision to announce early is a gesture of integrity and respect for the democratic process. By doing so, he has given all potential candidates— including myself—the opportunity to openly and honestly share our vision for Jeffersonville’s future with the people we hope to serve.

After decades of upholding the law and listening to the concerns of this community from the courtroom, I’m ready to serve in a new way—by helping lead Jeffersonville into its next chapter.

As a Judge, I built a distinguished career based on integrity, impartiality, and public trust. Now, I plan to apply that same approach to address the challenges facing Jeffersonville, including public safety, economic revitalization, housing, and youth development.

My experience has taught me that real change happens not just through rulings, but through leadership that listens, acts and unites people. Our city is full of potential, and it’s time for bold, collaborative leadership that puts people first.

On behalf of the entire Jeffersonville community, I want to wish Mayor Moore and his wife the very best as they begin this new chapter. I hope that they enjoy their long walks together and those especially peaceful days on the beaches and the hiking trails with their children and grandchildren.

I am equally excited to embark on my new chapter leading the city of Jeffersonville into the future.
